UPF - What does it mean?

Ultraviolet radiation, or UV, is present in sunlight. Sunburn is a sign that your skin has received too much UV. Over exposure to UV over many years can cause more serious health problems such as skin cancer or cataracts. Garments that are sensibly designed for sun protection reduce your UV exposure. It is often difficult to tell if a fabric offers good sun protection.

The Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) shows how well a fabric protects your skin from solar UV and lets you select sun protective clothing with confidence. Remember that the garment only protects the skin it covers. Protect other areas by wearing a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen and use shaded outdoor areas. UPF ratings range from 15 to 50. Fabrics that rate higher than 50 are labelled UPF 50+. Refer to our pricelist for individual product and colours UPF ratings.
